Funding

Swansea Community Workshops (SCW) has been fortunate to receive grants to improve our building and to acquire much-needed equipment. A full list of the grant awarding bodies is given below.

Much of this money is restricted funds and cannot be used for our day to day running costs. Without guaranteed income to meet our running costs SCW needs to request a donation from members and non-members who use its workshops. We also earn additional funds from the sale of the charity’s goods, made voluntarily by the members, and sold via our Ebay shop (See Ebay shop category) or our shop premises.

Courses/Activities/Workshops

Our training and activity courses cover a wide range of interests, e.g. carpentry, stained glass, pottery, clay working, willow weaving, etc. Please refer to the Courses & Events category for the current programme.

Alternatively, please enquire when a course is being held or whether you have a suggestion for a course. We welcome suggestions that might benefit the wider community, and always welcome skilled people offering a training expertise.

There is a nominal fee to attend courses.

Shop Space and Workshop Private Hire

Please contact us if you have an enquiry about hiring our workshops for your own private classes or if you wish to hire the shop space at the front of the building.

Commissions

Our work also embraces commissioned tasks, and several products have been made for outside individuals or organisations. If the charity is invited to do commissioned work for an outside body an official of the charity will agree the nature of the work and quote a suitable fee based on the material cost and labour time involved. An interesting example is the multi-coloured tabletops and benches made for a bistro café in High Street (See Projects category) .

Finally, no materials or equipment may be taken or borrowed from our premises without express prior permission.

Recent Grant Awards

Postcode Community Trust is a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. Our organisation recently received £8,260 from the Trust to improve our facilities, offering a wider range of craft activities to our members and beneficiaries, including a new pottery kiln and part-funded classes.”
