Swansea Community Workshops is made up of several studio spaces, which are available to hire by tutors or practitioners to hold classes and workshops, as well as be used by members. We currently have studio work spaces for:
- Woodwork: A large workshop space kitted out with hand-tools and larger equipment such as table and band saws, a pillar drill and laithe, as well as the basics such as screws, nails, etc. The room can hold up to 8-12 people depending on the activity and health & safety considerations.
- Glass: A medium-sized room equipped with a large and small kiln, as well as lightboxes and grinders. The room can hold up to 10-14 people depending on the activity.
- Pottery: A large room equipped with 6 T-Whisper Shimpo throwing wheels. The room can hold up to 14-18 people depending on the activity. We also have a 79 litre capacity kiln available for use.
- Sewing: A medium-sized space equipped with 6 standard sewing machines. The room can hold up to 10-14 people depending on the activity.
- Shop Front: A large room located at the front of the building, with separate access directly onto the High Street. The space has been the home of The Environment Centre’s ‘Switched On – Energy Awareness’ Project since October 2022, operating 2-3 days per week. The room can hold up to 14-18 people depending on the activity.
Our Glass Studio, Pottery Studio, and Shop Front are all available for multi-use activities, such as other crafts or small meetings.
We also have a common room known as the ‘Hub’, which is a chance for members or visitors to sit and enjoy a hot drink and interact with others. All our studios have access to toilets and can be set-up with refreshments.
